Matveï Safonov

Matveï Safonov was born on February 25, 1999, in Krasnodar, Russia. He is a right-footed goalkeeper standing 1.92 meters tall. He currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, wearing jersey number 39.

Safonov began his career at his hometown club FK Krasnodar. He made his professional debut on August 13, 2017, and became the first-choice keeper in 2019. He later earned the captain’s armband.

He made his Champions League debut against FC Porto in August 2019 and helped Krasnodar advance with a 3-2 win in the second leg.

On June 15, 2024, Safonov signed a five-year deal with PSG for around 20 million euros. His debut came in a Champions League match against Girona FC, which PSG won 1-0.

Although he was the backup in the final, Safonov became a Champions League winner with PSG in 2025. He has also represented the Russian national team since 2021, after a strong youth international career.
