PSG Pays 13 Million for a Defensive Surprise

Still stuck in a complex and costly deal with Illya Zabarnyi, Paris Saint-Germain is exploring other options for its central defense. Luis Campos is eyeing Germany, where one of his countrymen has made a big impression this year.

As time passes, PSG’s transfer bill keeps rising. Bournemouth is asking for a hefty 70 million euros for Zabarnyi, a large but understandable amount. Paris has the means to pay and, more importantly, needs significant reinforcement in central defense. PSG now has two options: pay the high price or target another player. Luis Campos has understood this well. Although he hasn’t abandoned Zabarnyi, he has increased his list of targets for the transfer market.

PSG Sets Sights on Diogo Leite

It’s confirmed by Foot Mercato that PSG is interested in Diogo Leite. The Portuguese central defender is currently playing for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga. At 26, he is in peak form after a standout season. He was named the club’s best player last year and, across the entire Bundesliga, he tops the list of duels won by defenders and ranks second in aerial duels won.

A left-footed player, Leite is one of Europe’s fastest central defenders. His profile is highly attractive, as is his price. Union Berlin is asking for only 13 million euros for the Portuguese this summer, as his contract expires in just over a year. However, PSG will face strong competition from English and Italian clubs, as well as Bayer Leverkusen, who have taken an early lead in the Leite race. It’s up to Luis Campos to choose the right words to convince his compatriot, and for PSG to determine an adequate salary to bring him on board permanently.
