Wenger Warns Lille, Giroud Needs Quality Support to Shine

LIGUE 1 – Former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has offered a word of caution to Lille regarding their new signing, Olivier Giroud. The 38-year-old striker is set to join LOSC, and Wenger believes his success will hinge on the quality of players surrounding him.

Speaking on L’Equipe, Wenger, who managed Giroud during their time at Arsenal, stressed the importance of providing the veteran forward with ample support.

“Olivier is a player who needs quality players around him,” Wenger explained. “When he comes into a team where he’s expected to make the difference alone, that’s not the case. He’s a type of striker who needs to be fed by others. He knows how to enhance a collective, and he himself is enhanced in a good collective. I think he is convinced deep down that having good players around him will greatly help him to be effective.”

Giroud is looking to reignite his goalscoring form after a somewhat disappointing spell with Los Angeles FC. Lille fans will be hoping the club takes Wenger’s advice to heart, ensuring Giroud has the necessary attacking firepower around him to thrive with the Dogues.
